How Will VirtueMart Product Behave If It Is Out Of Stock?

Accurate VirtueMart stock control allows merchants to maintain sufficient amount of products within certain period of time and ensure the store can meet fluctuation in customers’ demand. Though, you must admit, no matter how often you update VirtueMart product quantity you may encounter out-of-stock phenomenon.


In case some of merchandise run out of stock, it means they are currently unavailable and, respectively, can’t be delivered if someone places an order. VirtueMart lets store owners quickly detect product deficiency and react if some are of low stock. Correspondingly, when VirtueMart product quantity reaches 0, these products will be processed depending on the action you have preferred.

What Actions Does VirtueMart Provide?

After you log in admin panel you need to switch to Configuration->Storefront section. In the left column “Action when product is out of stock” field is disposed. It comprises all the actions possible and you can select the one that suits you best.

  1. Send low stock notification - whenever product stock reaches the value, provided in Low stock notification field, you will be messaged that this or that product quantity is decreasing and it may soon get out of stock. This option can prevent you from product lack.

    After it is activated, email notifying about low stock will be sent to admin panel.

  2. Products Out of Stock are orderable, no special action - this selection being chosen, shoppers will be able to add to order products which are out of stock, notwithstanding that VirtueMart product quantity is 0.
  3. Do not display product - merchandise that are low in stock, will not be shown at the frontend and, respectively, customers will not find and order them.

    Oftentimes, adding new products to VirtueMart, store owners find out that they are not shown for customers and look for solutions. Mostly, these products are out of stock and

  4. Do not display products if child products are out of stock - on condition that merchandise have child products assigned and the last are not in stock, main product will not be accessible at the website.

  5. Display “Notify me” instead of “Add to cart” button - if this radio button is checked and some products from VirtueMart catalog run out of stock, Notify me button instead of Add to cart will be shown for customers.

    When buyers open product page, they will find this button and after clicking on it they will be informed that viewed item is not on sale at the moment. If customers want to get notification after this product becomes available, they are supposed to provide e-mail address, it will be sent to.

  6. Products Out of Stock are orderable and the field “Availability” is displayed below - this option will enable Availability and allow customers to view and order items even if their inventory level is low. Availability icon can be select from the pre-defined list of images or you can add your own images if needed.

VirtueMart stock control is one of the most urgent tasks that can influence store performance.
