VirtueMart Taxes and Calculation Rules
Sometimes the price of the products you sell might also include taxes. They vary depending on the country and you might need to add extra value to the cost of your entities.
Except of taxes, there can be other price modifications for example, you can sell goods for higher or cheaper price for definite shopper group or entities from the definite category.
For the mentioned above purposes in VirtueMart exists section “Taxes and calculation rules”. With Store Manager for VirtueMart tax can be added to VirtueMart price in much more fast and approachable manner, not to mention about other various price adjustments that can be made by means of VirtueMart calculation rule.
Lets view each procedure in more details.
As was said above, taxes are charged depending on the country. Beside of that, depending on the location, taxes can be shown directly on product page or the product may be show without tax and it will be added to total sum at checkout.
In some countries, taxes are charged depending on the product type. For example, in Germany the value added tax for a paperback book is lower than the tax for an ebook. Furthermore, store owners themselves can charge no taxes, but payment processor used by them can actually do it.
In general VirtueMart works with VirtueMart tax rules. To make it simple, it offers the possibility to create a "global" tax rule that affects any product price or create more tax rules depending on various parameters.
In Store Manager tax rule can be created by means of pressing the button “Add rule” and setting appropriate options.
There are the settings to indicate, the most important ones are the following:
Published - puts rule in action. You can uncheck it in case it is for example seasonal change in price.
Calculation rule name - the title of price rule. Description - indicate what for this rule is created
Type of arithmetic operation - from drop-down select the type of tax or VirtueMart price modification you create. In our case, you create tax rule, so choose “Tax per product”.
Value - contains amount or percentage of increment or reduction (defined by inputting “+” or “-” in field math operation).
Visible (for shopper, vendor) - defines whether tax will be reflected and visible for clients or vendors.
VirtueMart Calculation Rule
Calculation rules are in most cases applied in case you need to create profit margin or procurement cost per product (the amount might consist i.e. of the postage for the product from the manufacturer/supplier to the Vendor et.). Basically, if you need to change your customers more, you can create some special VirtueMart calculation rule to be applied. Do not forget to indicate value for rule, if needed assign it to necessary customer group, manufacturer or apply definite products from selected categories. One more hint - make margin invisible for your clients (they shouldn't see it, since they will hardly like that you have profit margin).
The rules may be applied in pricing section of the lower grid. This way you can either add VirtueMart tax to products, add profit margin, pre-tax and after-tax VirtueMart price modifications.
As you have seen, there are numerous possibilities to create value tax or calculation rules on the basis of shopper groups, products, currencies, countries, states, etc. For more information check our documentation -http://store-manager-for-virtuemart-documentation.emagicone.com/customers-and-orders/taxes-and-calculation-rules
