VirtueMart Import of Local and Remote Images
If you own an online store, it's a good practice to ensure your store visitors with high-quality and good-looking VirtueMart product images. VirtueMart images used in your store will promote consumers’ attention and interest in your goods. However, if photos are plain or of poor quality, the item you sell will hardly inspire a shopper to make a purchase.
In case you’ve got massive catalogs, then adding pictures to thousands of images one after another, in turns, is not very practical solution. VirtueMart import of product images can lighten matters considerably. Though, what if you have images not stored at your computer, but provided you by your supplier via HTTP links from some third-party site. Downloading them to local folder at your PC will take the same time as you could spend uploading them manually. Preparing the file for import of local or remote images in the column with pictures put either links to the pictures or image names if they are saved at local folder at your PC. Adding multiple VirtueMart product images, you should in one and the same column, put names or links separated by comma.
You can upload images to already existing products, for that you need only field that will serve as identifier and field with images listed - no need to include additional columns and spend time on their entry. If you need to import photos along with products in addition to all required fields, do not forget to fill in Images column.
Further run Import/Export Wizard and do not forget to:
- check ‘Upload Images’ button
- see if you do not have notification that you have not set up FTP connection, as without it you will not be able to load images
- link .csv column with pictures to database field ‘Images’
After VirtueMart import of product images has been completed, check FTP task queue and see if you have records there. If yes, it means that images are still uploading in turns and you will see them at the front-end as soon as all images will be loaded.
To see VirtueMart images that you uploaded into VirtueMart v.2.x, you can physically access them connecting to your server using any FTP client. The default location of images is images/stories/virtuemart/, from here images are grouped by their type e.g.: product, category and so on.
